New and emerging communities learn to build their digital presence
During Refugee Week 2020, HOST’s Emerging Communities Incubator program in Adelaide partnered with local design and marketing company MILCO to run a Zoom workshop for refugee and new community groups on how to build their digital presence.
The workshop was developed in response to the needs identified by community members participating in HOST’s program and included digital marketing and social media skills, how to manage a community organisation website, professional communication and how to best use digital communications during Covid-19.
The workshop was attended by several new and emerging communities in Adelaide including the Congolese, Burundian, Bhutanese and Uyghur communities.
The goal of HOST’s Emerging Communities Incubator program is to upskill and empower new and emerging community groups and leaders to support their communities effectively.
For this workshop, HOST engaged the expertise of MILCO – a design, marketing and branding agency that helps businesses and purpose-driven start-ups reach their audience. MILCO co-founder Milly has experience in setting up global online communities in The Hague and San Francisco and co-founder Remco recently relocated to Adelaide after working in design in the Netherlands.
“We thoroughly enjoyed running a workshop for some of Adelaide’s HOST participants,” said Milly. “What a great group of inspiring leaders! We look forward to seeing their organisations grow!’’
Feedback from participants was positive. “Thanks HOST for responding to the community needs by holding this workshop. We have learnt a lot and still have a lot to learn in the digital world,” said one participant.
“Great workshop – I enjoyed every second of it and it was very informative and helped me learn how to collaborate,” said another participant.
Based on the enthusiastic feedback, HOST is planning further workshops in partnership with MILCO later in the year.
